Alpine Elegance & Italian Charm : A Serene Escape to Merano

Where to Stay and Eat in Merano

In October we had a beautiful relaxing weekend in Merano. Located in the region of Trentino and commune of South Tyrol It’s home to many beautiful Terme or Hot Thermal springs . Situated at the base of the Oetztal Alps it’s lush and green with many beautiful hiking trails. The perfect blend of Alpine elegance with delicious Italian charm!  You’ll notice the German influence throughout Merano and during Christmas the Mercatino -Christmas market has mulled wine . Perfect for keeping your insides toasty since  during the winter it’s freezing with lot’s of snow! Get yourself a mug and peruse the stalls that sell handmade gifts  unique to this region of Italy. We stayed at The Hotel  Ansitz Plantitscherhof  The spa and heated pool outside are perfect for relaxing after hiking and shopping all day. Another hotel I recommend is  Hotel Irma  . This property is so beautiful with a wonderful spa and the most delicious food and hospitality .

Things to do in Merano – Places of Interest

Merano so lush and peaceful, so many things to see and do here . The passer river runs through the city and there’s many delicious cafes. Grab a brioche; hot chocolate, park yourself on a bench surrounded by blooming flowers and the soothing sounds of the river. The German influence I mentioned earlier is everywhere from the food , language, architecture so you get the best of both countries here. I love to check out Museums and Merano has a few located in Museum Mile. The Princes Castle  is beautifully preserved with art and weapons from the 14th -17th centuries . The Womens Museum   were two I enjoyed the most . My favorite restaurant is Onkel Taa The photo I’ve posted from the entrance is in German but it’s been a restaurant since 1430! They have their own garden and it’s so elegant and cozy. The food is beautifully presented with  fresh, savory , herbacious flavor. I always feel so alive and content after eating here and the entire staff are so kind. After eating we always hike as the area it’s just too beautiful not to . I hope you take a visit here it’s definitely worth it ! XO Tera
