Why Maui is My Favorite Hawaiian Island – A Tropical Paradise I Keep Coming Back To
Maui has always held a special place in my heart — it’s truly my favorite Hawaiian island. I’ve been lucky enough to visit many times, and each trip feels just as incredible as the first. From the lush tropical landscapes , stunning beaches, and waterfalls Maui never fails to amaze me. What I love most is the perfect balance it offers: stunning natural beauty, a great variety of shopping (from local boutiques to charming markets), and an abundance of fresh, delicious food at every turn. Whether you’re craving adventure, relaxation, or a little bit of both, there are so many things to do in Maui that every day brings a new kind of joy. I’ve been to Maui solo, with my best girlfriend and with my husband . Maui is the kind of destination that welcomes everyone — whether you’re traveling alone, with friends, or as a couple, you’ll feel safe, inspired, and completely at home with the island’s warm aloha spirit. From peaceful beaches to thrilling adventures and everything in between here are some of my suggestions.
Best Places to Stay and Eat in Maui – My Top Recommendations from Personal Experience
The first night we stayed in Kihei /Wailea at What a Wonderful World What a Wonderful World was AMAZING!!! You have everything close by. Our favorite beaches are on this side. Big Beach and Makenna beach. We loved chatting with the owners Eva and Jim every morning over coffee and they had a fresh light breakfast available . Their rooms are so cozy and spacious , heaps of towels, sun chairs, laundry. If you needed anything they would happily accommodate. Eva and Jim are very very kind, well traveled and can seriously give you the best advice not just for Maui but traveling in general! I should have taken Jim’s advice before heading out to The Road to Hana ! More on that later ..
We found this cute little cafe (coconut is the name of the founders cat) and ate there everyday for lunch! After devouring the BEST tacos We needed coffee! The drive-thru kraken coffee was the perfect compliment to those delicious tacos! Their entire menu is delicious , we tried and ate everything !

After three days we moved north to Lahaina which is a cute old whaling village. The owner of this B&B Pavel is from The Czech Republic and his wife Heather is from NYC . They are such a well traveled ,warm hospitable couple. Their beautiful cozy bungalows are a five minute walk to the center of Lahaina and two great beaches. Maui has been their home for many years so they will give you a lot of great ideas for things to see and do. This is one of my favorite parts of travel, meeting new people from all parts of the world . Sharing stories and realizing how much traveling just opens your mind and soul.
We did a total of eight days in Maui so the last two we spent in Paia at Mamas Fish house This Restaurant is World renowned for their fresh catches. I was never able to get a reservation here on my previous trips BUT because I had booked two nights at their Inn (yes they have an Inn!) we were going to finish our trip to Maui on an incredibly high note. Perfection.. We had the Ceviche , red curry , and macadamia crusted mahi‑mahi. All of the fish is caught then served within 24 hours, with the menu even crediting the fisherman and catch location. I’ve never seen that anywhere before.
With its ocean views, graceful service, it’s a must‑experience. You can also stay at Mamas Fish house! The Inn there is quite spectacular !

🏝️ Top Things to Do in Maui – Activities, Beaches & Adventures You Can’t Miss
The road to Hanna . This guide will help you plan and navigate all the beautiful sights and stops Hana has to offer. Don’t be like me and decide to start driving at 11:30 am! So back to our first hosts back in Kihei , Jim said to us , start early! Like 8-9 am early. You have to start early because there is a lot to see and do. Obviously you can do the road to Hana at your own pace but I still say start earlier. That way if you want to stop to take photos like I did here in front of this spectacularly colored tree the Eucalyptus Deglupta. Also known as the Mindanao Gum or the Rainbow Gum tree. The most well known grove of rainbow eucalyptus on Maui is located near mile marker 7 along the Hana Highway but these beautiful trees are scattered at several other locations including Ke’anae Arboretum and spots just before Hana town.

Seriously there’s there’s so much to take in! Make sure you stop at Aunt Sandy’s and get banana bread before it’s all gone!

Take a helicopter ride over the island ! We booked with Air Maui It’s about an hour long from lift off to landing but what an incredible view of the island and fun time . Having the doors off the chopper was fresh and exhilarating !

Honokalini Black Sand Beach, nestled in Waianapanapa State Park, is a stunning natural wonder that feels unlike any other beach in Maui. We were fascinated by the jet-black volcanic sand, which contrasted beautifully with the deep blue ocean rugged lava cliffs. The waves can be strong, so we stuck to exploring the shoreline and soaking in the views. Reservations are required to visit, but planning ahead ensures a peaceful and memorable stop along Maui.
