3-Day Itinerary for Mexico City: What to Do, Eat, and Explore

3 Days in Mexico City: My First-Time Experience in the Heart of Mexico

My first trip to Mexico City doesn’t really count .. I was heading to Costa Rica for a photoshoot and our layover was in Mexico City for 2 hours. Fast forward to exactly twenty years later ; I’m heading to Costa Rica for a month long holiday and get invited to attend a Comic Con in Mexico City! It’s not always easy to squeeze some sightseeing and fun time in while simultaneously working but I did ! Though three days can barely scratch the surface of this rich and vibrant city I had a fantastic time and ate the best Thai food outside of Thailand here. Seriously … I’ll share some things I did in Mexico City and maybe you’ll add them to your itinerary too.. Mexico has so much to offer and I’ve got more destinations to visit in this incredibly diverse country!

Food and Fun: How I Spent my Days in Mexico City

I had a free day before the convention started so I went to see the pyramids of Teotihuacan and the  Museo Nacional de Antropología  I love museum’s and will always look for one or two when I’m traveling. I do recommend joining a tour – hiring a guide to see the massive complex of pyramids . They’re located about 45 minutes outside of Mexico City and there is so much to see! I remember from a distance thinking “oh I’ll be able to get to the top of the pyramid easy!” The pyramid of the sun is quite a hike and I remember feeling so tiny once I got to the top. I linked the Unesco World heritage site above for more information.. You can do the Anthropology museum in the second half of the day .

No trip to Mexico City is complete without witnessing the wild, high-energy spectacle of Lucha Libre — Mexican professional wrestling. I attended a match at Arena México, and it was easily one of the most exciting experiences of my trip. The crowd were shouting, chanting, and waving masks in the air with a level of passion that made the entire arena come alive.

The matches themselves are full of acrobatics, drama, and humor — it’s not just a sporting event, it’s a full-on performance. Between the larger-than-life wrestlers (called luchadores) and the enthusiastic crowd, the atmosphere was unforgettable. I grabbed a michelada with chamoy — a spicy, tangy beer cocktail that’s my favorite — and enjoyed it from the stands while taking in the show. It was the perfect drink to match the energy of the night.

Lucha Libre matches are held multiple nights per week, especially Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. You can check the schedule and purchase tickets directly through Ticketmaster Mexico – CMLL Events

Honestly the women luchadores impressed me more! They were so acrobatic and put on a great show. Get a mask! I didn’t because I never need extra stuff when traveling but I kind of regret I didn’t…. I should have gotten a pink one!!Mexico was so much fun.  I really enjoyed The Unboxing show , made some friends and I can’t say enough good things about our hosts La Mole group. What a fantastic team to work with, I hope I get invited back!  I want to see so much more of this great city. It was an incredible to visit Mexico City and I know I barely scratched the surface  XO Tera
